  • How are the Modified Tennis and Bocce Hydro Court Watering Built?

Working on the prepared base, firstly, the courts are measured for the six cells/courts to sit hidden below the court surface. The system aims to maintain a potable water supply to the clay surface in all environments. One by one, each liner is laid out, ready for the introduction of the water panels. The water panels are laid out onto the prepared liner and set level at three water panels per liner.

Schedule 40 PVC pipe is run along the court's perimeter and connected to each water panel. In turn, each cell is connected to its water control box. Once each cell has been completed and the pipes connected to the control boxes are ready to introduce the Screenings.

Water Retaining Screenings are laid into each cell until the entire court area is covered. Each cell is tested to ensure it is watertight and to allow rough leveling of "low spots" Once completed, the screenings are laser leveled and rolled firm, then the clay material is installed on top of the screenings, a minimum of 1" depth, in a single, firm, unified layer. The clay is locked or "bonded" by the constant presence of moisture. Finally, the screenings are graded to follow the court's slope and ensure quality. Laser-controlled machines carry out this operation.

It is highly recommended that this minimum depth of material is retained throughout the court's life to maintain the quality of the court.

Tennis Clay Court Refurbishment

It involves a comprehensive process to revitalize and improve the condition of clay courts. It includes various steps such as assessment and evaluation, surface resurfacing, filling, and leveling, drainage improvement, line repainting, marking, and ongoing maintenance and repair. The clay court refurbishment cost, including expenses associated with these services, can vary depending on factors such as the size of the court, the extent of refurbishment needed, and the specific services provided. It is advisable to consult with experienced professionals and obtain detailed cost estimates to ensure that it aligns with your budget and requirements.

Bosse Clay Court Refurbishment

Bosse court refurbishment focuses on addressing issues related to uneven surfaces or depressions, known as "bosses" on the court. These imperfections can affect the ball bounce and player movement. The refurbishment process involves filling and leveling these areas to restore a consistent and even playing surface, enhancing the overall quality and playability of the court.

Surface Resurfacing

Surface resurfacing is a crucial part of clay court refurbishment. Over time, the clay surface can become worn, compacted, or uneven due to foot traffic and weather conditions. Clay court resurfacing involves:

  • Removing the top layer of clay.
  • Addressing any underlying issues.
  • Applying fresh clay material to restore the desired playing surface.

This process helps maintain a consistent ball response, optimal playability and enhances the overall quality of the court.

Assessment and Evaluation

Before undertaking any refurbishment project, a detailed assessment and evaluation of the clay court are essential. This step involves inspecting the court's condition, identifying existing problems or areas requiring attention, and determining the appropriate action. An accurate assessment helps in planning and executing the refurbishment process effectively.

Filling and Leveling

Filling and leveling are essential in clay court refurbishment, especially for addressing uneven areas or low spots. These imperfections can affect ball bounce and player movement, impacting the quality of play. Filling involves adding suitable materials to raise common areas, while leveling ensures a uniform playing surface throughout the court.

Drainage Improvement

Proper drainage is vital for clay courts, as excess water can lead to surface damage and affect playability. Drainage improvement involves evaluating and enhancing the court's drainage system, ensuring efficient water flow, and preventing water accumulation. This step helps maintain optimal playing conditions and extends the court's lifespan.

Maintenance and Repair

Regular clay court maintenance and repair are integral to keeping a clay court in optimal condition. This includes ongoing brushing, rolling, watering, and grooming to preserve the playing characteristics of the clay surface. Additionally, promptly repairing any cracks, damages, or wear and tear is essential to maintain a safe and enjoyable playing environment. Proper clay court maintenance ensures that the court remains in good shape, provides consistent playability, and extends its lifespan.

By following a comprehensive approach that encompasses assessment, surface resurfacing, filling, and leveling, drainage improvement, line repainting, and marking, as well as ongoing maintenance and repair, tennis clay court refurbishment ensures that the court remains in excellent condition, offering players a high-quality playing surface and an enjoyable tennis experience.

Line Repainting and Marking

Line repainting and marking are crucial to ensure clarity and visibility during gameplay. Over time, lines may fade or become less distinct. As part of the refurbishment process, the lines are repainted, and singles and doubles play markings are reinstated, providing clear boundaries and guidelines for players.
