What the Code Says

What Pensacola's Noise Code Means for Your Community's Pickleball Courts

If your Pensacola HOA, condo association, or club is planning or resurfacing a pickleball court, the rulebook is Sec. 8-1-13 of the City of Pensacola Code of Ordinances, and for communities outside the city limits, Article III of Chapter 42 in the Escambia County Code. Neither one publishes a residential decibel table. Both turn on whether the sound is loud and raucous or unreasonably loud to a reasonable person, which makes where the court sits and what hours it runs the entire argument. Every claim on this page is cited. Last verified September 5, 2026.

Pensacola Noise Rules at a Glance

Loud and Raucous: The City Standard

It is unlawful to willfully make or continue any loud and raucous noise, meaning sound that because of its volume level, duration and character annoys, disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace or safety of reasonable persons of ordinary sensibilities. Source: Sec. 8-1-13

Vocal Noise: 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Vocal noises made in a loud and raucous manner between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. that disturb residents are specifically listed as a violation. Late league play with a crowd is covered. Source: Sec. 8-1-13

How the Pensacola Code Applies to Pickleball

This page summarizes public municipal code for general information only. It is not legal advice. Ordinances change, so confirm current rules with the City of Pensacola or a licensed Florida attorney.

Two Codes, One Question: Which Applies to You

Communities inside the city limits answer to Sec. 8-1-13. Communities in unincorporated Escambia County, including much of the Perdido and Beulah growth area, answer to Chapter 42, Article III instead. The standards are similar but the hours and the enforcing agency are not. Source: Escambia County Chapter 42

The County's Hours Are Stricter on Weekends

In the county code, loudspeakers and similar devices are restricted from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. on weekdays and from 10:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays in residential and noise-sensitive areas. Saturday morning play with music is the obvious trap. Source: Sec. 42-65

Yelling and Shouting Is Named

The county prohibits yelling, shouting, hooting, whistling or singing in residential or noise-sensitive areas between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., or at any time or place that unreasonably disturbs the quiet, comfort or repose of reasonable persons. Player noise is not an afterthought in this code. Source: Sec. 42-65

Commercial Premises Adjacent to Homes

The county also targets unreasonably loud noise from a commercial establishment, including its outdoor areas, between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. when it affects nearby residences. Club and racquet facility operators should read that as written for them. Source: Sec. 42-65

No Pickleball Language, No Court Hours

Neither the city nor the county code names pickleball, tennis or athletic courts, and neither sets play hours. Source: Sec. 8-1-13
